Door County Knock
In recent years the tight knit communities of Door County, WI have fallen victim to the whitewashing of growing news media conglomerates, stripping them of vital local journalism & reporting. Door County Knock aims to fill that void as an unbiased, not-for-profit news organization pledging to produce in-depth, community-centered reporting for and with all residents.
When the executive director (and former high school band buddy) asked me for some input on their branding, I offered to create a logo and provide some design/marketing support for an upcoming donation drive. He had the concept in his head, the “K” in Knock with the ascender being the iconic peninsula county outline. After sifting through hundreds and hundreds of Ks, in search of a classic serif that didn’t look like some sort of miserable Frankenstein mashup, we found the perfect one.
The rest of the brand came together quickly after that. I laid out some new promo postcards, banners for the local farmer’s markets, social media templates, and website updates. I also started some posts for an upcoming donation drive, where hopefully Knock can raise enough money to continue to grow and provide crucial community-level reporting for years to come.
