ManMadeDIY

ManMadeDIY is a website that helps take motivation and turn it into finished projects and checked-off to-do lists. With articles to inform, inspire, and provide step-by-step instruction, anyone can be a handyman with ManMadeDIY as their guide.

When MMDIY was purchased by Hive Media Group, it was in need of a new look, new content strategy, and significant ad optimization. Important to the refresh was not alienating the loyal audience of DIYers already engaged with the brand.

Working with stakeholders and content creators, we redefined the brand and developed a new content + social strategy. I was in charge of creating the new logo, typography, website, and color palette and presenting everything in a detailed brand guide. The site has since significantly grown its web + social audiences. See the site here: www.manmadediy.com

4 New Content Categories

As part of the content refresh, 4 new, main categories were identified. I created an icon for each of them, each with 4 versions with varying levels of detail. Depending on where the icon is displayed, a larger, more detailed version may be used or, for very small placements, the very simplified version can be shown down to 16 pixels.

Website Layout

Dev resources were in short supply, so the website had to be pretty barebones. I took a previous template and restyled it to fit MMDIY’s new branding. The only custom work dev had to to was add the 4 category menu at the top with hover animations.
